Introducing Our New and Improved Pointcloud Viewer: February Product Updates

February brought a completely rebuilt pointcloud viewer to the Cyvl platform. With a new suite of measurement tools that let you assess ADA compliance, analyze drainage, and verify sign dimensions without stepping foot outside, our pointcloud tooling is well equipped to bring new efficiency to your DPW.

Here's what's new.

Pointcloud Viewer Overhaul

We rebuilt our LiDAR pointcloud viewer from the ground up, adding four new measurement tools in the process. Each one unlocks a different set of use cases, but the throughline is the same: answers that used to require a field crew, now available at your desk.

Linear Measurement

Click any two points in the viewer and get an instant horizontal distance. It sounds simple, but the range of questions it answers is wide.

Sidewalk too narrow for ADA compliance? In the above demo video, we show how you can leverage Cyvl's sidewalk obstructions layer & our pointcloud linear measurement tool to assist with rectifying compliance.

Linear measurement via pointclouds unlocks a whole slew of usecases when paired with Cyvl's existing detections for utility poles and other obstructions. Planning to add a bike lane? Measure the curb-to-curb road width before any design work begins. Need to verify sign dimensions against MUTCD standards? Same idea, no field crew needed for initial screening.

Height Measurement

The same click-to-measure interaction, but for vertical distance. Select two points on any 3D feature and you've got the measurement: a stop sign, a curb ramp, a utility pole, whatever you need.

For teams managing ADA transition plans, this is a fast way to check ramp heights and clearance dimensions before deciding where to send crews. For sign compliance programs, it's a quick first pass on MUTCD height requirements, with centimeter-level accuracy right in the viewer.

Elevation Zone

Draw a polygon around any area of interest and get a color-coded topology map back in seconds. Grade changes, drainage flow paths, surface depressions, all of it is immediately visible without a separate GIS tool or a field visit.

This one opens up a new category of conversation for teams managing stormwater, scoping capital projects, or trying to understand why water pools in a particular spot. The visual is also genuinely striking, the kind of thing that lands well in a council meeting or a grant application.

Curb Reveal

Select a road segment and get an instant graph of curb reveal height along the entire stretch. Areas with low curb reveal are color-coded so problem spots are obvious at a glance.

For teams running ADA compliance audits or managing curb replacement programs, this changes the front end of the assessment workflow entirely. Screen your network, find the worst offenders, then send crews where they're actually needed.
