Our Public Works Assistant just got smarter: January 2026 Product Updates

January 2026 Product Updates: Our Public Works Assistant just got smarter!

We kicked off 2026 with a suite of new additions to our Infrastructure Intelligence Platform. From hyperlocal AI insights to mobile-first field tools, this month's updates deliver immediate value whether you're at your desk or in the field!

Headline Features

Draw Your Way to Hyperlocal Intelligence

Meet the Crayon tool: your new secret weapon for getting precise answers about specific areas of your infrastructure network when using our Public Works Assistant (PWA). Instead of analyzing your entire road system, simply draw the exact neighborhood, project zone, or district you care about, then ask your questions.

Why does this matter? Because real-world infrastructure decisions rarely happen at the city-wide level! You're preparing a RAISE grant application for a specific neighborhood. You're scoping a resurfacing project for streets near the waterfront. You're analyzing intersection safety in your downtown core. Now you can draw those exact boundaries and get instant statistics, condition reports, and AI-powered insights for just that area.

See Your Problems at a Glance with Distress Severity Filtering

Not all infrastructure issues are created equal. That's why we've added severity sublayers that break down every distress type by High, Medium, and Low severity—with visual opacity that makes priority areas instantly obvious.

For public works teams working with limited budgets (which is all of them), this changes everything. Filter to show only high-severity issues when presenting to your city council for emergency funding. Create prioritized work orders for contractors based on actual risk. Communicate clearly to stakeholders about what needs attention now versus what can wait.

Take Your Intelligence to the Field

Your infrastructure data shouldn't be trapped on a desktop. That's why we've completely rebuilt the Shared Maps mobile experience with native touch gestures that work exactly like you'd expect on your phone or tablet. Pinch to zoom. Tap to inspect. Thumb-friendly controls. Your complete road condition data and asset inventory, right in your back pocket.

Now your field crews can access condition data directly from the truck, check imagery on site without heading back to the office, and make informed decisions in real-time.

Quality-of-Life Improvements That Make a Difference

We also shipped six additional features that refine the daily experience of working with infrastructure data:

From Map to Image in One Click: You can now jump directly from any map feature to its corresponding street-level imagery with a single click. No more hunting around for the right photo or manually switching to imagery.

Zoom to Layer Extent: Like your favorite GIS tools, you can now instantly zoom any layer to fit your screen—no manual navigation required. Essential when working with large service areas or switching between projects.

Download Your Imagery: Your data is your data. Export 2D and 360-degree imagery with full metadata (locations, timestamps, EXIF data) for use in the Esri toolbox, QGIS, or custom analysis workflows. Perfect for organizations maintaining master asset databases or training custom algorithms.

Auto-Focus on Popups: When you click a feature, the map automatically centers it for you. Small detail, big impact on usability.

In-Platform Support: You can now submit support tickets, feature requests, and bug reports directly in the platform!

Dark Mode: For those early morning field reviews and late-night budget planning sessions, full dark mode support reduces eye strain and screen glare.

To Close

January’s product updates set the foundation for our big year ahead, with a strong focus on optimizing our existing tooling to help DPWs move from question to answer faster. UX polish means less clicks needed to find the insights you care about, which is something we know is particularly important for teams with limited resources. With something like Mobile Shared Maps, a clean UX is wholly transformative—unlocking new use-cases for field crews from day one!
